In this course, we present some scientific research on the effectiveness of the African Bitter leaf in the successful management of anxiety, depression and insomnia. Africa is rich in traditional medicine and the African Bitter leaf is one herb that has been of benefit to the continent, which can as well be of global benefit. In the search for cures to diseases today, research is more and more placing the search light on natural therapeutic substances that hold the potential of a reduced or no side-effects for humans, animals and the environment The World Health Organization (WHO) has been in the front line in encouraging the use of safe and accessible medicinal plants to maintain optimum health and treat diseases. While much research has gone into some herbs, there are still many herbs, used in many traditional societies to successfully treat various conditions and maintain optimal health, which are rarely heard about. In this course, we discussed one of those herbs. the African Bitter leaf. The African Bitter leaf has been used for centuries in various parts of Africa to address numerous diseases such as fever, body pain, liver, heart and kidney diseases, cancers, infections, to mention few. In some African communities, the leaves of the African Bitter leaf are juiced and well diluted and taken as dietary supplements on a regular basis. Water, as well as alcohol extracts of the African Bitter leaf can be used as dietary supplements or as treatments.
