Welcome to this course on the Baroque Art of Luca Giordano. Luca Giordano, 1634 1705, was a Master Neapolitan late Baroque painter and printmaker in etching. A virtuoso of figurative painting. The course contents include an Introduction, The Mentors and Teachers of Giordano, Giotto di Bondone, Jusepe de Rivera, Paolo Veronese, Pietro da Cortona, The Baroque, Luca Giordano - The Early Works from 1650, The Ten Philosophers 1650-1660, The Transition Years, Luca fa presto, The Master Works, Court painter in Spain 16921702, The Renderings and Etchings of Luca Giordano. Fluent and decorative, he worked successfully in Naples, Rome, Florence and Venice, before spending a decade in Spain. One of his nicknames, Proteus, was acquired as a result of his reputed skill in producing pastiches, an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period. His other nickname was Luca Fa Presto, because he is said to have painted a large altarpiece in one day, it is no wonder that his output, both in oil and in fresco, was enormous. Luca Giordanos range of subject matter was broad, however most of his pictures deal with religious or mythological themes. Giordanos earliest dated works are from 1650.In this course we are going to study and enjoy one of the greatest masters of the Late Baroque. Welcome!
