Mechanical Vibration is one of the most important sciences for engineers. The purpose of this course is to enhance the students understanding of the physics and mathematics of vibration systems. Shed the light on the application of vibration theory in geophysics. Understand the physical basis of the vibration measuring instruments. Understand the basis for the decay and amplification of the propagating vibratory motion. The student will gain the general basic knowledge of mechanical vibrations and will be able to use this knowledge in his use of the application of geophysical methods or in seismology to relate observations to the fundamentals of the physics of mechanical vibrations. In the First section the learner will be familiar with: Basic concepts of mechanical vibrationsTypes of mechanical vibrationModelling of the mechanical systemCalculating the equivalent stiffness and mass of the systemsDeriving the equations of motionsDetermining the natural frequency of the vibrating systemsSolving a lot of examples of free undamped vibration (Linear, Rotational, and Torsional motions)In the second section the learner will be familiar with: Basic concepts of dampersOver-damped vibration Critical-damped vibration under-damped vibration In third and later sections the learner will be familiar with: Forced Vibration due to Rotating unbalanceForced Vibration due to base excitationSystems with Two or More Degrees of Freedom
