Thermal Radiation process is considered as a dominant mode of heat transfer process which is involved in many systems which include high temperature and large scale such as combustors and furnaces. Electromagnetic wave can travel with the speed of light under vacuum condition. When Electromagnetic wave fall on their surface, it release energy content and hence heat transfer take place due to electromagnetic wave. This phenomenon is known as Radiation Heat Transfer. At low temperature radiation effect are less while the radiation effect are significant at higher temperature with gas medium. Radiation don’t require any medium for their propagation. In fact the presence of medium decreases the effect of radiation. This MOOC has been carefully developed for the students who are interested in heat transfer process. It should be noted that this course is the second Module of the heat transfer process. The course has following sections: Section 1: IntroductionSection 2: Irradiation, Emissive Power and RadiositySection 3: Concept of Black BodySection 4: Calculation of Shape FactorSection 5: Resistance and Radiation ShieldThe course highlights the given topics covered in the above mentioned section in a simplified manner. The learners should have the basic knowledge in engineering mathematics and basics of heat transfer for enrolling in this course. Hope the learners will enjoy the course. Happy Learning!
