In recent years, media and headlines have increasingly focused on the problems with transgender and nonbinary people’s rights, acceptance, and equality issues. These challenges might entail unfamiliar language, concepts, and identities for certain people. That is the reason we created this course. The appropriate usage of pronouns and gender identification words is essential for conveying respect and acceptance. The internal feeling of one’s own gender, whether it be male, female, neither, or both, is known as gender identity. Gender identity, as contrast to gender expression, is not immediately apparent to others. This course intends to shed light and accurate information on gender identity, in order to support individuals wishing to learn more about themselves, their friends, their children, their clients, and for professional and personal growth. The course starts with an introduction to Gender Identity by defining sex, gender, gender expression, gender identity, and so on. The course explains further the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity and goes on to explain how to use the right pronouns. Furthermore, the course tackles gender stereotyping and gender-based discrimination and concludes with the topic of allyship. We encourage you to view this course with an open mind and an opportunity for deeper understanding and growth.
